Search engine rankings are important to any online business or any web site that seeks to earn money online. As such, the markets online have become very crowded and competition in any money-making market is fierce.

There are only two ways to get traffic directly from the Internet (i.e. not offline marketing), and those are to buy your traffic and/or to get free traffic from search engines.

The tough part about free traffic is that it is so tough to come by and tough to keep. There are only ten (10) top 10 spots (obviously), so there's not much room for highly lucrative terms.
